synthetic data

Terms from Statistics for HCI: Making Sense of Quantitative Data

Synthetic data is when some form of model is used to create a dataset. The model may be based entirely on theoretical understanding, for example creating lots of body poses based on a skeletial model of bones and joints. It may also include knowledge from empirical data, such as the typical range of values for a feature.
